Riyadh — Extreme Dry Heat

Riyadh's desert climate produces some of the highest temperatures in the world for sustained periods. Key vinyl care priorities for Riyadh collectors:

• Air conditioning — mandatory and continuous. 48°C+ summer temperatures will warp unprotected vinyl within hours. Air conditioning must run overnight too — Riyadh nights in peak summer remain extremely hot.
• Desert dust — critical. Fine silica particulate from the Nafud desert accumulates in record grooves faster than almost anywhere. Use a carbon-fibre anti-static brush before every single play without exception.
• Static electricity — elevated. Riyadh's very low humidity (often below 15%) creates elevated static in air-conditioned interiors. An anti-static brush neutralises charge before play; polyethylene inner sleeves reduce static accumulation during storage.
• Paper sleeve desiccation. Very low humidity slowly desiccates paper inner sleeves, making them brittle and more abrasive. Replace with polyethylene inner sleeves immediately.

Jeddah — Red Sea Coastal Humidity

Jeddah presents a different challenge from Riyadh: high humidity (60–80% in summer) combined with high temperatures creates a hot-humid storage environment that is aggressive for vinyl in different ways than Riyadh's dry heat.

• Mould risk on cardboard sleeves — enclosed storage areas with poor air circulation can develop mould on cardboard outer sleeves. Polypropylene outer sleeve protectors are the solution.
• Paper sleeve adhesion — in Jeddah's summer humidity, paper inner sleeves can fuse permanently to record surfaces over months. Replace immediately upon purchase.
• Inspect regularly — check stored records every 3 months for early signs of sleeve moisture damage.

Dammam / Eastern Province — Gulf Coast

The Eastern Province Gulf coast combines high summer temperatures with Gulf humidity. Both heat and moisture management apply. The storage protocol is similar to UAE coastal areas: air conditioning, polyethylene inner sleeves, polypropylene outer protectors and regular inspection.

Abha — Moderate Highland Climate

Abha at 2,200m elevation has summer temperatures below 30°C — the most vinyl-friendly climate in Saudi Arabia by far. However, the Indian Ocean khareef (Southwest monsoon) affects Abha in July–August, bringing elevated humidity. Monitor sleeve condition during this period. The mild climate otherwise allows somewhat more relaxed storage than other Saudi cities, but air-conditioned storage is still recommended.

Universal Saudi Vinyl Storage Rules

1. Air-conditioned rooms only — no garages, balconies, or storage areas without A/C
2. Away from all windows — no direct sunlight on records or sleeves
3. Upright storage with dividers — never flat, no more than 25–30 records per section
4. Polyethylene anti-static inner sleeves — replace all paper inner sleeves immediately
5. Bring deliveries inside immediately — Saudi summer delivery conditions can damage records in transit packaging within 30 minutes
